About Northern CPD Coquet Vets

Northern CPD Coquet Vets was set up in 2024 as a part of Coquet Vets, which is an independent small animal practice that opened in March 2020. We wanted to offer practical CPD courses to veterinary professionals in the North East, giving easier access to those in the North of England and Scotland.

While there is an expanse of online CPD courses available for veterinary professionals, we found that there was a shortage of practical, cadaver-based CPD courses being provided in the North. This makes attending practical sessions costly, time-consuming, and sometimes not possible at all.

We have created a variety of high-quality CPD courses that offer practical training for vets and vet nurses who want to improve their practical skill base. We aim to provide courses that are relevant in everyday practice. All of our tutors have worked in general practice and consequently have a pragmatic and realistic approach. The practical element and small group size support the individual delegates in gaining the knowledge and experience they need to excel in the veterinary profession.

About Our Tutors

Our experienced course tutors are all passionate about teaching and providing accessible, relevant, and practical teaching. The small course sizes allow for a professional but personal teaching approach.

About CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the process of maintaining and improving your knowledge and skills. It’s a professional responsibility and is compulsory for all vets and vet nurses (RVNs) on the RCVS Register.

What counts as CPD hours?

CPD hours include any activity that is relevant to your role within the veterinary profession. It doesn't need to be clinical or involve attending a course.

Your day-to-day work will likely provide many opportunities for CPD learning, be it reading something or doing something new that may improve your veterinary knowledge and/or skills.

Activities that count towards your CPD hours might include:

  • Formal activities: completing an online or practical course, attending a conference or seminar

  • Workplace-based activities: reflecting on a challenging case or shadowing a colleague

  • Self-directed activities: reading a clinical paper, reading a book, or listening to a podcast

How many CPD hours do you need?

There is no limit to the number of CPD hours that you can acquire, but there is a minimum number of hours that you need to complete each year.

The minimum CPD hours needed are 35 hours for a vet and 15 hours for a nurse.

How do you log CPD hours?

As a vet professional, it is important to reflect on and record your CPD hours. You can log your CPD hours on 1CPD.
