CPD Course: Stabilising Emergency Patients: A Practical Approach

PRACTICAL WET LAB CPD
NORTH EAST REGION

12 APRIL 2025

TUTOR | Nanette Robson BVM&S CertAVP(ECC) MRCVS | Advanced Practitioner in Emergency and Critical Care

This full day CPD course is aimed at small animal veterinary surgeons in general practice.

An animal that is collapsed, in respiratory distress, or had a traumatic incident can appear at your practice door at any time and normally in the middle of your tea break! This course aims to give you skills to have the confidence in the initial approach, stabilisation, and treatment of these emergency cases.

The course will concentrate on practical tips to help deal with these emergency situations and will include:

  • Vascular access in a collapsed animal (cut down, central lines and intraosseous access)

  • Point of care ultrasound

  • Diagnostic thoracentesis

  • Chest drain placement

  • Pericardiocentesis

  • Fluid therapy and blood transfusions

Included will be a combination of lectures to cover theory, case discussion, and hands on practical sessions in our wet lab.
